My name is Dorothy Callaway, welcome to my world of Art.
Acrylic Art
For many years I enjoyed working in the traditional manner of an oil painter. I was attracted to using Acrylics because they are extremely versatile. Acrylics are fast drying and can be used straight from the tube like oils or thinned with water or a medium and used like watercolours.
When working on my paintings I vary my technique depending upon the subject. There is vibrancy in Acrylic that I find very attractive. By looking around the web site – you will discover how important that vibrancy is in my work.
When you check out the galleries see if you can find the original painting that has been included in the banner above.
Porcelain Art - also known as China Painting
Painting on the glazed surface of Porcelain is an addictive art form where the styles and techniques are infinitely varied.
It is done with the same attention to design, pattern, colour and visual texture as other forms of painting be they watercolour, oil or acrylic. The techniques most closely resemble those of the watercolour artist where the white of the surface provides the whites in the resulting painting. The final appearance can be much like an oil or acrylic painting - rich and deep.
The final layers on a piece of painted china may be enhanced with lustres, real gold or silver fired onto the piece to add particularly spectacular areas.
There is a vast amount of technical knowledge needed when working with the mineral oxides that form the paint. The resulting colours will never fade or change with time. The finished piece may have needed only one kiln firing or as many as a dozen or more.
